A Hui Hou, RV Chiquita

We would like to bid A Hui Hou to one of Mālama Maunalua’s family members: the RV Chiquita.

The RV Chiquita joined Malama Maunalua’s team four years ago. Following in the naming lineage of such vessels as famed researcher Steve Zissou’s RV Belafonte and Frenchman Jacques Cousteau’s RV Calypso, the RV Chiquita proved a stalwart of research and bay restoration.

During her four years, neither rain nor sun nor partly cloudy days could stop her as she transported research equipment and metric tons of bagged, invasive algae. Ultimately, Father Time won out and the bottom of the boat sprung irreparable leaks. RV Chiquita was excused from service and put to rest at Kapaa Memorial Park on March 23, 2018.

May you have smooth seas and a following wind RV Chiquita.

RV Chiquita is succeeded by her yet-to-be-named sister ship.
